TNT sets clear step forward in achieving its e-commerce strategy

TNT acquires e-fulfilment specialist ‘TopPak’

8 February 2010 at 15:30 CET - Amsterdam, TNT is expanding its e-commerce activities with the acquisition of e-fulfilment specialist TopPak. The parties signed an agreement to this effect today. With this acquisition, through its Parcel Service business, TNT is strengthening its position as market leader in the distribution market and adding an important link to its e-fulfilment service chain.

TopPak has revenues of approximately € 10 million, handles some 6 million packages per year and has significant growth potential. The company is profitable. Parties do not disclose transaction details.

Fulfilment entails service aspects like processing orders, stock management and packing products for shipping, in effect handling the entire administrative and logistics chain for orders, either traditional or online.

The acquisition of TopPak is in line with TNT’s Vision 2015 strategy on Parcels and Special Delivery Solutions (SDS) as announced on 3 December 2009. TNT aims to develop focused multi-customer network solutions, that provide dedicated service quality while improving the economics of the TNT delivery networks.

The acquisition also furthers TopPak’s ambition of bringing its service to the attention of more online retailers. TopPak’s 100-strong workforce will remain employed at the company’s site in Houten, the Netherlands.

TNT is already succesfully active in the home shopping market and expects to continue expanding it activities in the parcels and e-commerce market in the future.
