Ramsbottom employees work towards Fight Hunger Week
1 June 2009
Big-hearted employees from Ramsbottom express delivery giant TNT are embarking on a drive to fight hunger by providing a cash boost to the United Nations’ World Food Programme.
A team from the Railway Street depot are among those setting the pace during a week-long festival of fundraising to help feed and educate malnourished youngsters in Africa.
More than 60 TNT Express Services depots, hubs, customer contact centres and offices, covering the length and breadth of the country are currently combining their efforts as part of a specially designed Fight Hunger Week initiative which began today.
The project is part of an ongoing partnership that has already seen TNT in the UK generate more than £300,000 for the World Food Programme (WFP), helping provide much-needed nourishment and academic learning for thousands of children in Tanzania.
A mind-boggling array of events from fancy dress days to chest waxing, from swear boxes to placing senior managers in the stocks will all contribute to the fundraising activities.
Peter Reed, general manager at the Ramsbottom depot, said all the funds raised in the UK will go to the WFP’s School Feeding Programme in Tanzania.
He added: “It costs just 7p-a-day to provide a nutritional meal and schooling for a child in Tanzania. We may be in the grip of a recession, but it gives you a different perspective when you see the profound effect each and every one of us can have for the sake of what most of us would regard as ‘loose change’.
"Fight Hunger Week is all about making a difference and putting the focus on those who are less fortunate than ourselves and desperately in need."

Regional recognition for TNT Express
2 June 2009
Amid some very stiff competition in the Middle Eastern express sector, Dutch firm TNT Express strolled away from yesterday’s Supply Chain and Transport Awards (SCATA) in Dubai with the Express Logistics Provider of the Year prize.
“This award recognises a lot of the hard work that TNT has put in during the last four or five years. In particular, our road express product has excelled and we know this because of the feedback we’ve had from our customers,” said TNT Express UAE country manager Bryan Moulds, after picking up his award.
“In particular, this means a lot because there’s plenty of competition out there and it’s difficult to come up with competitive advantage and differentiate ourselves, so after years of really hard work, this really puts the icing on the cake. It’s also nice to be recognised from an external source, and not just an internal one,” the TNT executive added.
The Middle East has been a powerful region for TNT Express, where the company managed to see an impressive growth in revenues for the first quarter of this year.
“I just think that we’ve gone from strength to strength because we listen to what customers want,” continued Moulds.
“We haven’t looked to progress our network on the back of what is favourable economically or financially for ourselves. It’s been more a case of listening to what customers want and developing solutions to those requirements. As a result, this is a really nice accolade for us.”
