TNT creates jobs with newly inaugurated logistics centre in Northern Germany
25 June 2009
TNT Express Germany has officially inaugurated its new €3.7 million logistics centre at Rostock airport in northern Germany after it started operations in March this year.
The company expects to increase the number of employees at the new facility to 40 by 2010. Along with about 60 external workers employed with partners and service providers, TNT Express thus safeguards around 100 jobs in the region.
After laying the foundation stone in October last year, the state-of-the-art logistics centre was constructed within five months on a 12,000 sqm area. The operative core of the new building is the 1,100 sqm transfer station which is nearly the double size of the previous one. The latest sorting facility enables a further reduction in transit times for customers’ transport shipments. The office space is also considerably larger than at the previous facility with about 900sqm instead of 200 sqm before, TNT Express Germany said.
The new facility at the Airpark Laage Süd near Rostock replaces the previous TNT depot, located about 17 km away in Güstrow, which had been in operation since 1996.

Astrata wins TNT ARN contract
29 June 2009
The Astrata Group has picked up a contract by TNT Asia to track the 3PL's truck and container fleet through TNT's entire Asia Road Network (ARN).
On top of its Geo-Location Platform 100 GPS tracking device, Astrata will also implement its ‘anti-hijack protection' system, which enables a vehicle that is stolen, hijacked or appears to be driven erratically to be stopped remotely.
The deal is a region-wide one covering TNT's ARN which links Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, China and Cambodia. The contract has a term of four years.
"After a rigorous evaluation and subsequent trial we are confident that Astrata offers TNT Asia the most comprehensive and reliable solution available," said Tony Lugg, TNT Asia's head of security. "This new system will provide TNT with a critical element that will further enhance our information, security and safety systems."
