TNT Sells French Stake
23 January 2006
TNT, in the midst of a huge restructuring of its logistics operation, signed an agreement to sell a portion of its French logistics subsidiary to Norbert Dentressangle.
The sale of the contract logistics operations and some of transportation activities is separate from the sale TNT plans this year of its entire TNT Logistics unit, splitting the three-sided company apart.
In the meantime, TNT says discussions are continuing on the sale of the rest of TNT French Logistics' transportation business. TNT expects to take a $165 million pre-tax charge, mostly booked this year, on the disposal of its French logistics unit.

Postcomm issues new licenses to TNT Mail and UK Mail
24 January 2006
Postcomm has issued new licenses to TNT Mail UK Limited and UK Mail Limited that take into account the requirements of the new licensing framework that came into force on January 1, 2006.
The regulator says the aim of these new licensing arrangements is to encourage new operators to come into the market, while ensuring that customers can continue to have confidence in it.
The new license is issued for a ten year rolling period, bringing other operators' licenses into line with that of Royal Mail and requires each licensee to provide information about its own performance, so that customers can make informed choices between different services and different operators.
It also requires license holders to set up systems to handle customer complaints, as well as introducing two codes of practice; one requiring licensees to ensure the safety and security of the mail they handle and the other dealing with operational issues, including handling wrongly addressed and mis-delivered mail. Both codes came into force at the start of January 2006.
Under the new rules, licensees must provide financial guarantees so that customers would be protected if their own provider went out of business with mail on hand.
