Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes

We benchmark our performance against the Dow Jones Corporate Sustainability Index. In 2005 TNT entered the Dow Jones Sustainability Industrial Transportation Index as industry leader, with an overall score of 75. In 2006 we were again industry leader with a score that had improved to 84. In 2007 we were ranked as leader in our super sector, with a score of 92, the highest score in the index.

Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) are the first global indexes tracking the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. They provide investors with reliable and objective benchmarks to manage sustainability portfolios. A defined set of criteria and weightings is used to assess the opportunities and risks deriving from economic, environmental and social developments for the eligible companies.

A major source of information is the SAM questionnaire which is completed by companies participating in the annual review. Further sources include company and third-party documents as well as personal contacts between the analysts and companies.

The external assurance report by PricewaterhouseCoopers ensures that the corporate sustainability assessments are completed in accordance with the defined rules. Based on SAM Research's corporate sustainability assessment companies are ranked within their industry group and selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes, if they are among the sustainability leaders in their field.
